Starting Over

Filed under: Portfolio Progress — Jorge @ 1:33 pm

I’ve been trading in the stock market for about a month now with little capital ($800). From the month of trading, I’ve learned quite a bit. When to buy, when to sell, how much of each to do, etc. So far, I’m up 2%, which, for those mathematically savvy folks, is a mere $16. Better to gain money than to lose it though. I’ve decided though to start my portfolio over with an emphasis of using this blog as a means of checking myself and my theories in conjunction with other sites such as Stockpickr.com. I’m leaving for Portland, OR next week but once I get back I plan on wiping my portfolio and starting from scratch.

  2. Thanks for the advice. I’m hoping that this won’t be an expensive lesson in the stock market. I’ve been interested in it for quite some time, but never had that business mentality I thought you needed for it. Hopefully I can use this blog to convey my thoughts on the market and other ideas about personal finance from a college student’s point of view. We’ll see!

  3. I did some daytrading for a while, but had to give it up. It was just too much for my nerves.

  5. I know, I know. Uncle Sam makes me sad. Uncles are supposed to spoil you, just not as much as your grandparents. I’m in a position, though, where I’m still in college and as such am in the smallest tax bracket. It’ll help soften the blow a bit!
