Light Weekend Reading

Yom Kippur to all those celebrating this weekend. Let’s keep things light with some interesting reads on the blogosphere.

  • Money Morning has an article on a $900 million dollar conspiracy involving some options plays that expired today.
  • How I Save Money has a quick blurb on how the Fed has affected savings account rates as a result of the interest rate cut we saw on Tuesday.
  • My Saving Place has an article regarding retirement funds. You can never start saving for retirement early enough. If the market continues on its recent strength, you may hit your goals a bit quicker!
  • I’ve never heard of Freeganism and neither did the Green Panda Treehouse.

On a happy note, I won my very first contest over on Cash for Comments. Seems I get to be a part of a book signing plus I’ll receive a personal copy of The 4 Hour Workweek. A 4 hour workweek would give me a lot of time to focus on investing!

See you all tomorrow for a portfolio update!

  • ^_^ Probably does count. Nice to meet your Jorge. My name's Juan!

Hey not a problem. A lot of folks don't really realize how the workings of the market affect their everyday lives. Some folks such as my uncle, depend on CD and savings rates for steady income since Social Security doesn't do much. Any time a rate cut comes around, he has to save that much more in order to maintain his income.
  • Thanks for the link. It was something I stumbled upon and found to be an interesting read. Congratulations on your portfolio! Monday looked great for you.

My fiancee has a lava lamp in our bedroom. Does that count? Hah! Thanks for visiting!
  • Hey there found your site from lulu's howisavemoney =) nice place you got here... the lava lamps are cool too.

The only benefit from the US$ dropping is that it becomes somewhat easier for us to pay our bills. I've read from some analysts that it's only temporary. Others think we're going into a depression as a result of the huge rate cut last week. This is where I wish I had a better knowledge base when it comes to economics. Eco 2011 doesn't cut it when it comes to in-depth analysis.
  • Yep, rates are going up still in Taiwan... which should make the ntd more attractive than the US. the ntd isn't a fully traded currency, but the unofficial peg has really hurt other exchange rates as the US$ fell in value.

Not a problem. Not many folks know the downsides of a rate cut to the average person. Everything from savings to rates on CDs decrease with rate cuts which end up hurting those needing low risk interest income to support their day to day activities. Good luck with your blog!
  • Hey thanks for including my blog in your weekend reading. It is always good to know that someone else out there is reading what I write. I am taking a look around your blog now and I will link back!
