Portfolio Progress – September 3, 2007

A new month although from what history’s said it’s not the best month to be in the market. Last year most investors decided to go bearish which resulted in short squeezes around the board. Hopefully the same effect will be seen this year.

My plans for this week will be to hold steady. Level 3’s finally made a move, rising about 5% for the week. I have some call option plays on XTO (more of a gamble but we’ll see) that expire in 3 weeks. XTO broke through the $55 resistance level this past week, if only briefly.

We’ll keep the recap short this week since it is Labor Day after all and I should be barbecuing with the fiancee!

  • Total Deposits: $1,477.59
  • Current Portfolio Value: $1,351.45
  • Profit (Loss) as of September 3, 2007: -$126.14
  • Profit (Loss) as of August 26, 2007: -$130.76
  • Profit (Loss) as of August 23, 2007: -$117.15
  • Profit (Loss) as of August 15, 2007: -$51.96

Alright! I didn’t lose money this week. A note though. My current balance includes 10 open option calls on XTO for the month of September. I’m hoping those calls will help to break even this month now that summer’s over. This week I’ll go ahead and post detailed information about my portfolio and the homework behind the choices. Let the September bull market begin, shall we?

  • Hello, the story you helped create, "The Queen's Sojourn" is now posted. Here is the url

I hope you enjoy the story as I enjoyed writing it. It was a very different story than I am used to writing. I appreciate your participations. Please come by and visit again.
    Thanks again Jenn

I's a great story. Luna would really appreciate it. In case you don't know, that's the family dog. Here's a picture of her: http://www.sheltienation.com/welcome_to_sheltie...

    Good luck with your writings!
  • Jorge,

Good luck in September. It typically is a tough month. And this year, the mortgage credit crisis will continue to weigh heavy on investor's minds.

Among your stock picks, GME was also a pick in my system, but I didn't purchase it. So I missed the recent big rise :-(
  • Jorge
I goofed with GME and sold extremely early. It's just a pitfall from learning I suppose. I'm getting there though. I've learned to have patience, especially with my spec LVLT. Patience is definitely a virtue. Good luck in September as well!
  • I definitely find this stuff interesting but I have no clue about it, maybe you'd like to guest post on my site sometime with an intro-to investing and stock stuff?
  • Jorge
Sure I wouldn't mind. I just started out as well. I'm pretty much giving myself a crash course on how to do this stuff. I do know a few things on what to do and what not to do though. We can talk about it later! How was your Labor Day weekend?
