My mother had 4 shares of GE stock in 1987. Has it split or done anything since then. Or do I just have 4 shares at todays price of $14.67

Earl Phares

Jim,

If I were to own GE, it'd be in a fixed income scenario. What some people are suggesting is that the markets move in tandem with GE. While I can see the relation, I actually prefer DIS over GE as a market tell. I agree though. If a company like GE, a multi-functional company, isn't growing, what does that say about the economy? With GE missing, I can see us being in an industrial recession so to speak. If a company like DIS misses in my opinion, we're really in trouble.

OS,

I was thinking of picking up cheap calls on GE for the bounce but I ran out of trading power Friday. Such is the life of a small account, hah!

The earnings miss was surprising but its the breadth of weakness. Almost everything outside of NBCU and Infrastructure was weak. The US economic is definitely screwed up. I wouldn't bet against GE given the low multiple on trough earnings.

Options Strategery's last blog post..General Electric (GE) gets hit by an earnings miss

Don't even try technicals on this stock. Its a complete waste of time. We held GE as a 12% of our Industrials sector portfolio in the Nittany Lion Fund... and it definitely stinks to see this happen (despite the fact it gave us a boost over the benchmark).

My point: they went ahead and said they won't be growing this year. Don't trust technical analysis voodoo on this one. No growth = no stock appreciation
