Weekend Reading – February 17, 2008

Filed under: Weekend Reading — Jorge @ 12:14 pm

I know, I know. I’m late with this weekend’s reading list. Cut me some slack. Only 6 days to go before I’m married so I have a real excuse! I do plan after the honeymoon to devote 1 hour each day to exposing the blog and visiting other blogs. I’m currently doing things somewhat haphazardly so it’ll be a welcome change. Not to mention I won’t have a 400 page appendix for my publication due days before a stressful life event. In any event, here’s a few articles I found to be of note this week. Enjoy!

  • Jeff, the Option Addict, has created a Daytrading Video. Watch it. Learn it.  Discuss it.
  • Blain has a list of stocks he’s currently watching. He’s also in the middle of moving so at least someone else is experiencing life’s little gifts.
  • The ever so lovely Trading Goddess and her weekly sector review is up!
  • The Big Picture’s 3-Day Weekend Link Fest! (By the way, the markets are closed Monday for holiday!)
  • A nice intro to thinkorswim’s Spread Hacker system by Condor Options.

It’s probably time I set up a solid, non-emotional, swing trade/daytrade system.  Have a great holiday weekend folks!

Weekend Reading – February 9, 2008

Let the countdown begin I think. 14 days to go. 2 chapters of my PhD must be completed by then. It’s crunch time! Always nice to have something to read in order to take my mind off things. Here’s what I’ve seen this past week. Enjoy!

And finally, Eric Bolling’s interview on Wallstrip. I never got a chance to see him on Fast Money, but I’ve heard he’s been missed dearly. I do like Karen Finerman though. Have a great weekend!

Weekend Reading – February 2, 2008

With the amount of work I have (1,440 Excel tables…), this week’s reading list is an excuse to give my eyes a rest.

  • Have we bottomed yet?  Not sure, but these stocks may have
  • Microhoo!
  • Speaking of Microhoo!, are they really overpaying for Yahoo!?  Google’s internet dominance still won’t be challenged to be quite honest so it may be a waste of cash.
  • What can’t you cut from your budget?  While I agree organic / soy milk tastes better, I can’t justify the cost right now, especially with regular milk expensive as it is.
  • Herb Greenberg v. Larry Kudlow.  Who would you take in a fight?

Have a great weekend.  Go Giants (dislike Patriots with the passion of a thousand fiery suns)!

Weekend Reading – January 26, 2008

Here’s another edition of “What You Should Be Reading!” This week, the markets signaled a turn of events for some traders. For one, he’s finally hitting base hits. The other needs to STOP DAYTRADING and follow his rules. Patience looks to be key in a market like this. Without further ado, here we go!

  • Whether it’s luck or finally turning things around, Bubs is finally back on track. Sykes, on the other hand, took a nasty hit this week. Ironically, the week before Bubs was taking nasty hits as he appeared impatient while Sykes had his best week ever being (somewhat) patient.
  • Lady TG gives us a rundown of next week’s earnings reports including the beaten down Google. Something tells me they’re going to disappoint but we’ll see.
  • Congrats to Blain on hitting it big with b5media! Don’t forget about the little guys like us Mr. Bigshot!
  • Rogue trading at it’s finest. But did the SEC and others know about the French rogue trader that cost SocGen $7 billion before the news break?
  • How one trader turned $24.50 into $1100 within hours.  Note the tags on the blog post!

Good luck this week.  I have a feeling it’s going to be another wild one.

Weekend Reading – January 19, 2008

Filed under: Weekend Reading — Jorge @ 1:11 pm

Good ol’ weekend reading. With the weather being complete garbage here, there’s plenty of time to catch up on this week’s articles.

  • Sector returns on the Trading Goddess’ blog. Can we say flight to safety?
  • Wonderful week recap from the Cape Town Postcard!
  • I completely forgot about the wager between Cramer and ex-Fast Money personality Bolling.
  • Guess the NASDAQ close this week and win a cookie! Or at least some link love from Blain. That’s close enough to a cookie I suppose. I’m placing my guess as we speak.
  • I’m guessing the CES was fun for some folks. Not a bad prank I suppose. At least it wasn’t something destructive like a “pinch”.
  • A 2,000 point jump in the Dow? Cramer really wants a rate cut. Either that or it’s becoming much more difficult to find a bull market somewhere.

And there you have it. With today’s weather, I’ll be indoors burning some time, perhaps sprucing up the place. I’ll have notes from the TOS weekly chat later on this weekend.
